In his time representing Wyoming in the United States Senate, John Barrasso has proven to be a determined and effective advocate for Wyoming’s uranium producers.
The Department of Commerce recently announced its decision to initiate an investigation under Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act into whether uranium imports from countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan are harming national security and undermining U.S. producers. Senator Barrasso, in his position as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, was instrumental in making this happen.
He has worked tirelessly to even the playing field for the domestic uranium mining industry with regards to the Department of Energy’s uranium bartering program over the last decade. Through his leadership in the Senate, Senator Barrasso was able to bring a halt to this practice while he continues to forge an equitable long-term solution.
