The General Manger is a key member of the Eagle Specialty Materials leadership team and reports directly to the Eagle Specialty Materials Ownership Team. This position is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and directing all activities, systems, processes for the 2 Gillette, WY surface coal mining locations. Eagle Butte and Belle Ayr mines produce 140M yards of overburden movement and 35-40M tons of coal production with over 450 full-time employees between the 2 locations.

Responsibilities:
• Must be a proven self-starter and logical problem solver who actively seeks out opportunities to mitigate problems, optimize and enact solutions and is comfortable and capable of functioning and leading in a dynamic environment
• Must be a multi-tasker who prioritizes activities both for self and the team, including project planning requiring resourcing and cooperation across departments
• Will lead and direct the activities of the ESM team to ensure required manpower, equipment and other resources are available as and when needed
• Will plan, organize, and direct all activities for mining operations including mine production, and technical oversight of improvement projects while coordinating with Engineering and Production personnel, ensuring compliance with permit requirements.
• Initiate actions to optimize production rates and minimization of unplanned downtime coordinating with all departments to achieve desired outcomes
• Lead problem solving for existing and new processes in the areas of procedures, methods, people and/or equipment. Using experience and knowledge, develop creative and viable solutions consistent with priorities.
• Ensure that the plans, activities and timelines are adhered to and that operating and financial data is collected and measured against project forecasts to ensure accountability.
• Lead the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for monitoring mining operational performance.
• Lead the development and lead a performance-based operations team that maximizes the productivity of people, equipment, and materials ensuring compliance to internal and external requirements.
• Establish production performance standards and evaluate employee performance against those.
• Provide recognition of employees for exceptional performance and initiative when warranted. Enforce progressive disciplinary action for employees in violation of company policies as defined by the Employee Handbook
• Demonstrate company values as defined by the EHS policies and procedures. Maintain employee relations in a manner that compliments and strengthens morale and leads to higher productivity standards.
• Actively support and encourage safety programs and procedures to achieve safety objectives.

Qualifications:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 10+ year experience related to surface coal mining
• Experienced with translating mine plans into operating plans and prioritizing and executing those plans.
• 10+ years Mining Operations experience a must.
• Must be organized and an active communicator with others in the company in all directions; encourage two-way communication and provide ongoing feedback with staff, peers and management.
• Must be capable of identifying and resolving problems in their early stages
• Must have a continuous improvement mindset.
Additional Requirements:
• Good verbal and writing skills including the ability to read, write and speak English
• Must have a valid Drivers’ License
• Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and functional department managers.
• Strong time management and willingness to meet business critical deadlines.
• Must have the ability to work in a team environment
• May be required to periodically work varying shifts to include days, nights and weekends
